Alexz Johnson at the House of Nonie Fashion Show

    Friday, July 2nd, 2010

Our own Katie Gilmour wrote a review for Alexz’s most recent appearance, hosting and being hte mc at the House of Nonie Fashion show, where models strut down the aisle to Alexz’s songs. Make sure to read Katie’s review below!

Yesterday, June 29th, Alexz Johnson hosted and MC’d the House of Nonie Fashion show. To be honest, I didn’t think I would be able to attend. I had just moved, and there was so much to do that I didn’t think I would be able to make it. I hadn’t even planned on going until the day before the show. But I knew Alexz would be there, and I really wanted to go.

On the day of the show, my brother and I drove about an hour and a half, and met up with some friends at Lobby in Toronto. We were running really late, but luckily, the show didn’t start until about eight.

We were all sitting around, just chatting and passing time, when all of a sudden a voice came out of the speakers. It was Alexz, and the show was beginning. We all stood up and Alexz talked briefly about the designer Nina Rahal-Kharey and her clothing line that was being showed that night. She talked about how Nina’s brother had been killed due to violence and how the line was named after him– JR. After she finished talking, all of a sudden, loud music blasted out of the speakers. The song was Trip Around the World.

Watching all the models walking to Alexz’s music was so cool. The crazy thing about the fashion show was that all the models walked on the bar, which had been converted into a runway. The first song was Trip, which led into Voodoo, then La Made Me. I looked over at Alexz at one point and she looked so happy, and had a smile on her face.

All of the dresses were beautiful! Nina has an amazing talent and I was blown away at all the different designs. At the end, Nina came out to say her thank yous. Nina was standing on the bar, but Alexz was standing on the floor at the same height as the audience. Watching Alexz climb up onto the bar while wearing a long skirt was pretty funny. But she made it up quickly, and actually very gracefully! Alexz and Nina stood on the bar and Nina took the time to recognize everyone that had contributed to the show. It was really nice to see two amazing people that were so genuine and humble.

After finishing, Alexz and Nina walked to the end of the bar and down a few stairs and went backstage. Alexz came out quickly, and I got to be the first one to talk to her.

Once again, Alexz was so genuine and had a big smile during the entire conversation. She signed my Voodoo CD for me, and a picture from when I met her the first time at the Rivoli. I told her that we had met at the Rivoli, and that I had written her a letter, and she actually remembered who I was. We talked for a few minutes about the album and about what her plans are in the future. Eventually Alexz had to go and see some people, but she gave me a hug before she left. I also got a picture with her, but unfortunately it didn’t turn out very well.

The group I was with ended up leaving shorty after, but It was an amazing night. We got dinner, then headed home, myself on an Alexz high, haha.

It never ceases to amaze me how talented Alexz is, but how she stays so down to earth. I don’t think she has the slightest inkling of exactly how much her and her music means to myself and so many others.

Alexz, if you read this, thanks for everything you do! There’s really so much I want to say, but don’t know how to find the words. It really means the world that you share your music with us. The way you write and perform is absolutely inspiring, and I know that I would’ve never gotten into songwriting and playing guitar if it weren’t for you. Your fearlessness and how you can pick back up and start from scratch after losing your music really shows us what strength and perseverance really is. Please continue to make music and share your soul with us. We as fans, will always back you up and support you and your passion.

Thanks to Alanna and InDiscover for giving me the opportunity to share my experience with you guys!

    Dont Forget to Be Awesome!

    Flashback Week: Day 2

    Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Today’s song was recorded in 2003 or 2004, but was the first song Alexz remembers writing. There’s so many ways to look at the song, but in the end it all goes back to having someone there, that “you are not alone”. If you haven’t heard the song, I really recommend you listen to it now…

    The song is “Running Back”.

    Flashback Week: Day 1

    Friday, January 1st, 2010

To introduce 2010, we’re posting a song each day for an entire week from the past decade. Each day we will post a new song from Alexz’s past, which we think were her best. This all starts today and will end next Friday. So let’s get started!

I was really torn from two songs that Alexz did in 2001. One she wrote and the other she performed so graciously… Therefor, I am posting both!

This song appeared in 2001 on Zoog Disney’s hit show, So Weird, where Alexz replaced Cara DeLizia’s character, Fi, in the third season as Annie Thelen. Towards the end of the season Alexz’s character discovers that someone’s watching over her, she has her own guardian angel.

This song is appropriately titled “Cause You’re Watching Over Me”.

Next is a song that Alexz wrotean episode in which she performed during Carnival in So Weird. Throughout the episode she tries to save her family and friends from turning into carnies! The song is “To Dream About You”.

    Here’s an HQ Episode Rip:

And an LQ demo version of it:

Make sure to check back each day for our Flashback Pics!

Bren and I have been back in the studio working on a new album.
