    Voodoo Re-Release This Fall?

    Sunday, July 11th, 2010

In March, Alexz released her debut album, Voodoo. Voodoo charted well its debut month, frequenting the top 50 albums on iTunes and even higher on Amazon.ca charts.

However, the album has not been as successful with the industry. Trip gets rare radio play. But, Alexz is a fighter and wants to reach her music to everyone. In March, shortly after Voodoo’s release, a Trip Around the World remix was announced and more recently more information was released.

Alexz sent out an exclusive email to her fans this morning stating that an entire remixed Voodoo album would be released this fall with a brand new radio single. The album is being produced by no other than Demo Castellon (who attended her NXNE show with wife Nelly Furtado).

This is NOT a dance remix as many think, these are songs reworked to be more friendly with the masses and radio play. If you listen to Taylor Swift and then hear her on Top 40 stations, the country is replaced with pop. Its similar to that.

Alexz also promised that “slot more will be happening over the next few weeks”!

    Alexz Johnson
    By Kenyth Mogan

Amongst the over synthesized, over produced sensations whose vocals have been auto-tuned to robotic perfection, Alexz Johnson is a rare gem. The multi talented Johnson, is an actress and singer-songwriter hailing from British Columbia. She first appeared in the Disney Channel original series “So Weird” with Mackenzie Philips and in 2008 wrapped taping on the Gemi Award winning “Instant Star” which she portrayed the main character of Jude Harrison for four consecutive seasons. Johnson also appeared on all five show’s soundtracks, including a ‘Greatest Hits’ album.

Now, Johnson returns with what is technically her debut album, “Voodoo”. Released independently through inDiscover Recordings, a subsidiary of Universal Music’s Orange Lounge Recordings, the album is a blend of contemporary pop and that of the 50s/60s rock era. Johnson’s voice is smooth, passionate and her lyrics, which were co-written with her brother, Brendan James Johnson (who also produced the album) are fun, insightful, and well composed. Johnson, though beautiful, relies not on sex and shock value to sell her record, but talent.

The album’s first single “Trip Around The World” was released February 2nd and is also available on her website www.alexzjohnson.com as a free download. The album packaging is just as impressive as the contents itself as it is styled like a poster from a 50s film. Johnson states that she and her Brother have a love of film music, and that each song is almost like their own scene.

The albums opening (and title track) “Voodoo” with a strong beat and seductive lyrics, the Johnson’s have you immediately immersed in the cinematic world that they have created, which does not stop until the album’s fun and funky finally, “Boogie Love”. Point blank, if you’re looking for an instant gratification stick with artist like Ke$ha and Lady Gaga, but if you’re looking for music that has stamina, you can purchase “Voodoo” from Johnson’s website, CDbaby, and Itunes.”

    NewsOK.com Review of Voodoo

    Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

    By Conner Rohwer
    Published: May 1, 2010

Alexz Johnson has come a long way since she first appeared on the Disney Channel a decade ago. With her first solo album, “Voodoo,” Johnson introduces a sound virtually unexplored by any other contemporary artist, pulling from such inspirations as Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush.

The album is an eclectic compilation of various styles of music from hip hop to tribal beats, sometimes within the same song. Each track tells its own story and creates a distinct vibe, while at the same time allowing each song to flow flawlessly into the next.

“L.A. Made Me” tells the story of a girl caught up in becoming famous and losing sight of what is important. “Look at Those Eyes” is a haunting ballad about a painful experience. “Boogie Love” is a feel-good song perfect for road trips.

“Trip Around the World,” the first single from the album, is about the troubles Johnson had while trying to record an album under a major label.

This album is nearly 10 years in the making. After multiple label changes, Johnson finally settled with Epic to record her first album. But two years into the recording process, Epic cut a third of their artists, including everyone who had yet to release an album. Johnson did not give up, but immediately started over from the beginning. Voodoo is the resulting product, and it is definitely magical.

    Alexz’s Myspace “About Me”

    Friday, May 29th, 2009

I don’t think I posted this, but this is on Alexz’s myspace. It’s really sweet and Alexz is possibly giving us a line from “Saving the Train”?

We’re so close to finishing the album, it’s hard to wait until it can get out there… We’ve completed ten of the tracks, and just need to write and record a couple more to round it out. There have been some amazing musicians who’ve been contributing, and everyone has been classic and cool. Just did a photo shoot today in NY with the lovely Gabrielle Revere and a super talented team. I love this city.. I’ve been living out of a suitcase and writing in the most amazing studios this past couple of weeks and I wouldn’t have it any other way.. so close.. a few more tracks away but the train is on it’s way.. “Say it Ain’t So!” — Could we be Seeing Double?

    Friday, February 6th, 2009

Alexz posted a new blog and details about a new movie?

I wanted to give you guys an update of 09 so far…

As you know, I’m patiently awaiting a push of the “go button” on the release of my album with Epic Records. The label has been going through some really big changes this past few months, including a new head of the label. These changes effect scheduling and often new artists releases…

As that’s been coming together, I’ve been looking at some interesting projects to work on that won’t tie me in for an extended amount of time.

For the next month I’ll be shooting a film to keep me working while waiting… Of course, it’s not really work.. It’s a super challenging role as I get to play twin sisters !

I hope you’re all having a wonderful year so far.
    All my love,
    Al

Blog Update: Sittin’ at the dock of the Bay

    Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Alexz is getting better with Blog updates, no? Here is her latest.

Sittin’ at the dock of the bay
    Saturday, November 29, 2008

    Hey guys and girls,
Christmas is coming and I put my lights up on my balcony last night. I sat outside and played guitar for the building next to me, but I don’t think anyone heard.. apparently they were all in the mall stepping over people. I’m going to rally my sibs and friends this year and drag them out christmas caroling… they’ll hate it at first, but love me after.

    I’m looking forward to 09..
I can’t wait to share this past year of music with you..
    Enjoy the season*
    Al
